People who understand, because we've lived it
Gippsland Carers Association Inc is a nonprofit, ACNC-registered charity run by people who know caring from the inside — supporting family carers and the people they care for across Gippsland, Victoria.
Who we are
Our association began the way most caring does — quietly, locally, because someone needed it. A group of Gippsland carers noticed that while there was plenty of help for people who were unwell or ageing, there was almost nothing for the exhausted family members holding everything together behind them. So they built it themselves.
Today we are a registered charity supporting both carers and the people they care for. Over the course of each year we assist hundreds of local people — and when an enquiry is beyond us, we make sure it reaches someone who can help, rather than leaving anyone to navigate alone.
We are incorporated as a charitable association and registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). Our annual reports are publicly available on the Charity Register, and our committee is made up largely of current and former carers.

What we believe
Three simple convictions guide every conversation, group and activity we run.
Carers are people first
You are not just "the one who copes". Your health, your sleep, your friendships and your dreams matter. Supporting the carer is how you protect the caring.
Nobody should navigate alone
The service system is confusing even on a good day. We translate it into plain language, walk beside you through it, and never leave an enquiry unanswered.
Connection is medicine
A cuppa with someone who truly understands does what no brochure can. Peer connection is at the heart of everything we do — because it works.
How we're run
We're a community association governed by an elected volunteer committee, most of whom have been carers themselves. That lived experience shapes every decision — from the timing of our groups (built around caring routines) to the way we answer the phone (a person, not a menu).
Donations and grants are receipted and tracked against our programs, our accounts are reviewed annually, and our reporting to the ACNC is up to date and public. We keep things deliberately small and local so that money goes to morning teas, respite days and real help — not administration.
Everything we discuss with carers is confidential. You can share as much or as little as you like, and nothing you tell us travels further without your say-so.
Why Gippsland needs us
Gippsland is a beautiful place to live — and a hard place to be a carer. Distances are long, services are scattered, and country people are famously reluctant to ask for help. A carer in a small town can go months without meeting anyone else in the same situation.
That's exactly the gap we fill. Our groups and activities bring carers together in their own communities, our information service reaches people who'd never walk into an office, and our activities welcome the people being cared for too — because a good day out should be shared.
When you support Gippsland Carers Association, you're keeping help local, human and free for the families who need it most.
