Stories & impact
Our impact isn't measured in buildings or budgets — it's measured in lighter shoulders, returned laughter and carers who no longer feel alone. Here's what that looks like.
In their own words
Shared with permission; names changed to protect privacy.
Why peer support works
There's solid reason behind the cuppa and a chat.
It breaks isolation
Caring shrinks your world. Regular contact with people in the same situation is one of the strongest protectors against carer burnout and depression.
It shares real knowledge
Carers hold hard-won practical wisdom no manual contains — which pharmacist delivers, which form matters, which shortcut works. Groups trade it freely.
It restores identity
When your days revolve around someone else's needs, an hour that belongs to you — laughing, walking, talking — reminds you that you exist too.
How we stay accountable
Small and local doesn't mean casual — we take trust seriously.
- Confidentiality first — what's shared in a group stays in the group, and personal information is never passed on without permission.
- Registered and reporting — we're an incorporated association registered with the ACNC, with annual reports public on the Charity Register.
- Carer-led governance — our volunteer committee is largely made up of people with lived caring experience.
- Follow-through — when we can't help directly, we connect people to someone who can, and we check it worked.
- Free for everyone — donations fund morning teas, respite days and information support, not gatekeeping.
Help write the next story
Every coffee morning, every answered phone call, every day out exists because someone gave. Your donation keeps Gippsland's carers supported — and never alone.
